September 18, 2006 - Hilton Waikoloa Village on Hawaii’s Big Island Is Now Better Than Ever
The Hilton Waikoloa Village on Hawaii’s Big Island is in the midst of a US$61-million enhancement scheduled for completion by the end of 2007.The three-phase renovation, launched in 2005, started with a US$21-million investment in 2005 that included upgrading most of the 1,240 rooms, the Kohala Sports Club & Spa, tennis court, three restaurants, wireless Internet access, as well as all ballrooms and meeting facilities.
During this time, Hilton also expanded the lower lobby by a tropical garden with a glass-front entryway, and added quartzite decking around the Kona Pool, a 176-foot waterslide, Jacuzzis and hidden grottos. Even the mahogany canal boats that cruise the waterways around the 62-acre resort received upgrades.
To create a modern, fully-managed network in convention areas, the resort is in the process of completing high-speed Internet access upgrades in meeting facilities. The upgrades include a new T3 capable circuit and network infrastructure with features such as Gigabit backbone capable switches, additional cabling, and jack replacements to provide enterprise class stability and flexibility.
A refurbished bar and addition of a flat-screen television and DVD player at Boat Landing Pavilion are designed to provide the ultimate in entertainment.
The second phase of renovations, currently in-progress, include refinishing Kohala and Ocean Tower pools, property-wide rockwork and specialty flagstone refurbishment, renovation of the main lobby and Palm Terrace restaurant and the final 316 rooms in Ocean Tower.
Additionally, an interactive children’s fountain with special computerized water effects was added near the main pool.
Major renovation plans for 2007 include more than US$25-million for the third phase. A Dolphin Quest Village will be developed, featuring an education portal, a retail boutique, guest changing rooms and photo/video production centre.
