Key West Attraction - Family Fun in the Florida Keys

A Key West attraction is easy to find. Less than 90 miles from Cuba, less than 10 miles square in area, Key West is a popular Florida beach destination.

There's more to do on this small island than you can imagine. Key West has a busy tourist areas, but there are also quiet, palm-lined streets with beautiful Spanish style houses.

While the numerous beaches and resorts are a big attractions, there are lots of other Key West attraction and family activities on this tiny island to keep the family busy.

Key West's beaches lead visitors to clear blue waters that are perfect for swimming, jet skiing, snorkeling, and scuba diving by the coral reefs. There are also boat tours, a Conch Tour Train and the Key West Aquarium.There is of course more to the Florida Keys than Key West.

There are dozens of islands stretching out between Miami and the Dry Tortugas, the most westerly of the keys.

Key Largo is famous for its amazing coral reef in John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, where you and your family can go swimming, diving or snorkeling. Spend your days at the beach sunbathing or local sites such as the Maritime Museum of the Florida Keys. Watch the sunset from a bay-side restaurant to end your day.

Marathon is known for its fishing, diving, and boating, as well as the Museum of Natural History of the Florida Keys and the Florida Keys Children's Museum.

The beaches, wildlife and tropical forests in Bahia Honda State Park on Bahia Honda Key are among the attractions that must be seen in this area.

Nestled in the heart of the Florida Keys is an island resort with nature-oriented children's programs. The Hawk's Cay Resort is 60-acres surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico that is ideal for boating, fishing, diving, and snorkeling.Dolphin Encounters are Hawk Cay's trademark.This is a popular program with reservations required up to three months in advance.

The Island Adventure Club includes the Little Pirates Club for ages three to five, and the Island Adventure Club (ages six to 12). Both offer a variety of both water and land themed experiences provided by trained counselors. Dry fun comes in the form of a pirate ship jungle gym and a tree house playground.

Located in the Florida Keys, Cheeca Lodge & Spa offers snorkeling over North America's only natural coral reef; "snuba", a way to dive 20 feet down without scuba gear, ok for kids as young as eight; saltwater lagoon stocked with fish Camp Cheeca for ages 6-12, is "an award winning marine education/environmental awareness program".

Bahama Village Neighborhood

This engaging Bahamian and Afro-Cuban neighborhood remains relatively untouched by modern tourism off the "beaten path." Highlights include authentic eateries and a laid-back attitude.

Mel Fisher Maritime Heritage Society Museum

Visitors will be dazzled by the rich booty from local treasure hunter Mel Fisher's richest find, the Spanish ship Nuestra Senora de Atocha.

Key West Aquarium - Key West Attraction

At the Key West Aquarium, visitors of all ages will enjoy up close and personal encounters with the sea life. Go on daily guided tours, the shark, turtle and stingray feedings and the always exciting shark petting. At the Touch Tank, guests can meet conchs, horseshoe and hermit crabs, sea urchins and sea cucumbers "face to face".

Conch Tour Train - Key West Attraction

This tour vehicle looks like an old train, and it takes visitors all over the island for a look at the most interesting spots in Key West. This tour is a must for families who want a great introduction to the most popular parts of the island.

Mallory Square

A major center of activity in Key West, Mallory Square features Mallory Market, the Shell Warehouse, the Key West Sponge Market, Bird in Hand, Caribbean Cargo, the Conch Store, and the Key West Aquarium. Other stores and shops offer local products, including dozens of varieties of conch, Key West's favorite dish.

Key West Shipwreck Historeum - Key West Attraction

This museum presents the treasure and artifacts from several ships that have wrecked near Key West during the last 150 years. The Historeum also has recreations of Key West life in the 19th century.

The Southernmost Point in America - Key West Attraction

The southernmost point in Key West, and consequently in the continental US, is at the intersection of Whitehead and South streets; a buoy marks the spot.

Key West Ghost Tours - Key West Attraction

These evening tours are a lantern-lit one mile stroll through the shadowy streets and lonely lanes of Key West's Old Town. During the easy-paced hour and a half walk, visitors discover the dwelling places of ghosts and ghouls and learn their stories.

Schooner Western Union - Key West Attraction
